In Memoriam

Dr Mike King

Mike King grew up in Portsmouth. He attended Springfield School and attended Portsmouth College before going on to study Natural Sciences BSc at Robinson College, Cambridge, an MSc in Engineering and Physical Science at Imperial College, London and Medical Degree at Kings College, London.

The Dr Mike King Trust was founded by a close friend and colleague of Mike, Dr Manish Patel in honour of his memory after Mike sadly passed away in 2018.

Mike was dedicated to his family, the Portsmouth community and his vocation as a Consultant Radiologist at Queen Alexandra Hospital. He became Director of Breast Screening in 2012 and later also became Joint Clinical Director.

Mike and Manish both had humble backgrounds growing up in Portsmouth from working class families. They met at Kings College Medical School in London and returned to the city to dedicate their careers to giving back to their communities. The Trust is committed to supporting and inspiring the talented youngsters of Portsmouth and surrounding areas to reach their full potential. The Vision of the Trust is to ensure that local youngsters have all the barriers removed to step up to meet the shortage of Doctors in the region and follow in the footsteps of Mike and Manish.
